Attraction Details :
Hua Hin Railway Station, one of Thailand’s most beautiful and oldest railway stations, is located on Phra Pokklao Road, Hua Hin Subdistrict, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan, near Royal Hua Hin Golf Course and not far from the office of the Hua Hin Municipality.
The station’s current building was built in 1926 by Prince Purachatra Jayakara, the Prince of Kamphaengphet, governor of the Royal State Railway of Siam at that time. It is a red and cream, half-wooden half-concrete building influenced by the Victorian architecture with beautiful patterns and decorative columns.
In 1968, when Col. Saeng Chulacharit, then governer of the State Railway of Thailand, brought all parts of Phlapphla Sanam Chan, a pavilion with four gable ends built in the reign of King Vajiravudh, from Sanam Chan Palace in Nakhon Pathom and had only Thai artisans rebuild it at Hua Hin Station as a royal waiting room. The pavilion, renamed as “Phlapphla Phra Mongkut Klao”, was officially opened by Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda on 6 April 1974. It possesses architectural value and is considered the symbol of the station.
The residents of Hua Hin take a great deal of pride in their railway station. Also, it is where an old steam locomotive the State Railway purchased from England is preserved. Used before World War II, it is the State Railway’s historic locomotive.
